This book is about a true story growing up with poor, semi-literate but ambitious parents in deep, rural, Jamaica and the determination to get an education. It highlights the achievements of mother and son and the dedication to raise her son who was four, when her marriage failed. It gives insight about the struggles they encountered and her ability to make sacrifices so her only son could attain a high level of education in Jamaica and the United States.

His success was evident; he was the first student from Florida International to attend Harvard Law School. He attained the goal he aspired to from the age of four, he became an attorney. He became involved with different voluntary groups, was maturing in his chosen field and had varied hobbies.

It shows that a child can excel with only one parent, with love, respect and most of all, real communication and quality time together. My world collapsed when my only child, the joy of my life, died tragically. I lost everything, thus the title of this book is, “True Story of Struggles, Success and Tragedy’’.

I hope that this book will inspire readers that one can achieve one’s goal with hard work, determination, focus and trust in God. It serves to remind us that it is not where we come from but where we are going and that being poor does not dictates one’s life.
