Alcohol abuse rendered me useless and self-hating. I was aware that I was not born to end up on the garbage heap, as one fellow-sufferer put it; I was made for much better things. The contents of this story are of my personal experience. I drank and smoked most of my life. At fifty-five, I went back to school and obtained my high school diploma. At sixty, I began to write.
