Michael was the lead story on the six o’clock local news. The too-clear surveillance camera footage showed him running on the edge of the traffic lane to grab the old lady’s purse. She would not let go, and their tug of war caused her to fall backward after he finally broke her grip. The tape showed him what he had not seen in his haste to crouch and flee between parked cars to get to his motorcycle. Her head hit the asphalt. A day later, she was dead, and the investigation of a purse snatching had turned into a hunt for a murderer.
And then he heard that voice inside his head, again.
"Her name was Genevieve Delozier," the girlish voice said. "Her husband had died five months before. She had four children: Patty, who is a nurse at the hospital where her mother died; John, who is a pathologist in the city morgue; Donna, who is an assistant district attorney; and Bill, who is the chief of police."
“The A-Team,” Michael muttered.
