Bullying in the Workplace: An Occupational Hazard was the FIRST Australian book written for victims, perpetrators and employers to seriously confront what one in five people know from personal experience – that bullying is rife in workplaces all over the world. Published originally in 2002 by HarperCollins, it focused particularly on psychological bullying, which is often done on the sly, without witnesses, and consequently is much more difficult to prove. In the intervening eight years, very little has changed.

This new, updated edition contains additional information, a more international focus and a new chapter on communication skills, Helene Richards and Sheila Freeman (herself a victim of bullying) have continued to explore this serious subject, drawing on many case studies. We should never be terrified of going to work and we should not be left crippled emotionally, psychologically, physically or financially by events that occur there. Yet this is what bullying does to a large proportion of the population.
