This book is based on a systematic review of key research on culturally competent practice (CCP) from the UK and other countries. The book explores key research using the thematic approach. The themes are drawn from guidelines in National Association of Social Workers’ Indicators for the Achievement of the NASW Standards for Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice, key research and a public inquiry following the death of a Black and minority ethnic child. A reflective analysis follows which explores in depth the key issues relating to CCP and the book also provides suggestions on ways to improve CCP. The book is based on a research study undertaken by the author when studying for a Professional Doctorate in Social Work.
