William Ralston Shedden-Ralston (1828-1889) was a British folklorist and writer who became famous as a translator from Russia. He was in Russia a number of times where he made friends with major Russian writers of those times such as Turgenev and Afanasyev.

This classical Russian fairy-tale that was collected and translated by William Ralston Shedden-Ralston. The central figure of the story is a Moujik who lived in the far land and always kept holy only Nicholas's day, performed services, went to church, but disregarded Elijah's at all. But one day Moujik was luck to meet St. Nicholas itself and was warned to sell all his harvest to the person he didn't wish to worship. It was hard enough to predict what Moujik was going to overcome in order to save his crop.
