Jacob was born into a Mormon family in the late 1950s. As he grew up, he quickly learned he wasn’t wired the same way as others. He wondered why he was interested in being tied up and why he didn’t have the same interest in girls as his male friends did. Convinced he was the only one in the world with these foreign feelings, he thought himself insane and kept his terrible secret hidden. He prayed every day that he could just be “normal.” He served a mission with dedication and married in the Temple. He tried following the teachings of the Mormon Church, but he could not subdue his yearnings to be bound. Finally, he went to a therapist who told him he was gay. With the church’s encouragement, Jacob subjected himself to “gay to straight” therapy, which ended in deep depression and trips to mental hospitals. His story is for all the men who suffer silently and urges turning guilt into acceptance, struggle into survival. ForeWord Clarion Book Review
