My e-book looks at many incidents in his military career that earned him the reputation as a blackhearted treacherous figure. There are so many instances where he ingratiated himself with superiors to benefit his ascent in the Continental Army. Among these is the Conway Cabal, a plot that Wilkinson joined with Horatio Gates to backstab George Washington, and cost him command of the army. After the Revolutionary War ended James Wilkinson moved west to Kentucky and involved himself in a plot to separate the western portion of continental America. His pact with Aaron Burr and others is still somewhat murky in terms of knowing exactly who was responsible.
