Marie Francois Sadi Carnot was bludgeoned by the dagger of an anarchist during a visit to an international exhibition in Lyons, France in June 1894. Sadi Carnot was riding to the theater around 9:30 p.m. when a man emerged from the crowd who was thought to be carrying a petition. Inside his sleeve was the weapon he used to bring down the French head of state. My e-book looks at this assassination in light of events that were happening in the United States and worldwide. In America there had already been the violence and executions brought about by the Haymarket Square riots in Chicago in 1886. Federal troops were sent in by President Cleveland to ensure the delivery of mail during the Pullman Strike the same summer that Cesare Giovanni Santo killed the French President.
