Set in the late 1840s in the Alpine mountains of Italy, this is the story of Lorenzo Snow opening Italy for the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. At the same time across the globe, Lorenzo Snow's sister, Eliza R. Snow, faces the challenges of settling into the Salt Lake Valley. A group of humble Waldenese people catch the attention of Elder Snow when he and his companion travel to Piedmont. They are welcomed into the home of Albertina, her friend Madeleine, and her elderly Catholic grandfather, Father Andrew. When Albertina's brother, Joseph, falls deathly ill, the missionaries give him a blessing and miraculously heal him. This miracle sets off a string of reactions that leads to the dedication of the country for the preaching of the gospel and the conversion of several open-hearted Wladenese families. However, as the Lord’s work progresses, conflict and persecution also arise as more come to the truth and strive to stand stalwart in their faith.

One Candle is a historical fiction novel that brings the history of the Church in Italy to life and serves as a lesson in how the Lord answers the prayers of His faithful children.
