REQUIEM FOR A GAME is a subversive slap in the face to the game of Football and other Sacred Cows of American Culture, such as the college president pimp-state which sends children to the NFL, the still-unchecked fraternity rape culture, and the death of Feminism via "Google" porn. Told through the eyes of a young African-American teenager whose dreams of playing pro football are dashed by a head injury, Edward Williams' blistering satirical voice palpates the hot button issues of an "Easily Amused" society that exploits people then throws them away, all in the name of selling beer and cars, and of course, bolstering the bottom line. The fine doses of fiction and "gonzo" journalistic savvy are mixed with flavors of Hunter S. Thompson and Tom Wolfe with a dash of Kurt Vonnegut to provide a potent if not revelatory treat for readers.
