On March 3, 2012 Rush Limbaugh, host of the popular conservative talk radio program The Rush Limbaugh Show, issued an online apology for comments made on air on from February 29 through March 2 in which he famously referred to Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke as a "slut" and a "prostitute". Limbaugh's comments came several days after Fluke was denied an opportunity to speak at a congressional hearing to discuss a provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), that would require employer-issued insurance plans to cover contraceptive medications. Fluke was later invited to speak at an unofficial Democratic hearing on the subject and her testimony was cited during a Senate debate on the proposed Blunt Amendment which would allow employers to opt out of the health care law's contraception provision.
