Sliding for Home

Benjamin “Bird” Dunavin’s world has been turned upside down. His single mother has started a new job, moved them to a new house and he’s going to a new school. The worst thing about the move was leaving his baseball team.

Baseball and being on a team mean everything to Bird. There’s a tryout for the team at his new school, but his mother doesn’t want him to play. She hates the game that she calls a “murderer.” Bird loves his mother, but baseball feels like its part of his DNA.

He needs to find answers to his question. His efforts are complicated by a school bully, an annoying brother and the relationship between the coach and his mother. As secrets about his family’s history are revealed, Bird faces the possibility of losing his grandmother who has always been his staunchest supporter. He battles to keep playing the game he loves and, in the process, discovers the real meaning of home.
