Thomas Crane was an American scholar and writer, mostly known as a collector and publisher of folk-tales and legends. 
“The Fair Angiola” is an Italian fairy tale, entered in the “Italian Popular Tales” collection. The story is about the seven women, neighbors, all of whom are seized with a great longing for some jujubes which only grow in a garden of an old witch, who lives near. They have stolen the vegetables several times, until at last the witch notices that someone had been in her garden. Sometime after the woman has a beautiful little girl whom she named Angiola. In exchange for stolen vegetables the witch takes the fair Angiola with her and leads her away to a tower… What destiny is waiting for Angiola and how will the story end? Read the tale to know it!
