Something Is Wrong in Mountainside

Seriously wrong, perilously wrong. Betsy Hughes knows it, can feel it, but she’s not certain precisely what horror has enveloped her old home town.

Betsy, a 30-something political operative in the New York Legislature, has moved back to the tiny Adirondack mountain community in which she was raised to care for her widowed mother during the older woman's last days.  Her mother now dead and laid to rest, Betsy has made a day trip to Albany to get back her old job from the married state legislator with whom she has maintained a long-term love affair.

When Betsy returns to the village of Mountainside that evening to pack her bags, she finds the place devoid of life.  The houses are dark and vacant.  Electric power has vanished, and so have all 300 people who lived there.  On top of that, when she loads her car and tries to leave, Betsy's car won't start.  In fact, none of the cars in Mountainside seem to work any more.  Betsy finds herself consumed by an immense terror.  Something incredible has happened here, she concludes.  And, she soon realizes, it's still happening.

Thus begins a monumental clash between Betsy, aided by a group of local newspaper people and a squad of police officers, and a primordial demon that has emerged from centuries of sleep in the hollow heart of the mountain on which the village is located. The Mountainside Incident is a supernatural thriller that details a deadly, chilling clash between rational, 21st Century humanity and a murderous creature that defies all logic and modern human experience.
