The Santals are a tribe inhabiting the Eastern outskirts of the Chutia Nagpur plateau. Their religion is animistic, they believe in spirits of everything around them, of their ancestors etc. The Santals stories often feature animals, witchcraft, gods and spirits. This is a story of two brothers who lived together and worked in the field (the elder brother) and with the cattle (the younger brother). Every day the wife of the elder brother brought them their breakfast, and once the younger brother decided to play a trick on her and didn’t respond to her calling, but he could see her looking for him. And he could see her practicing witchcraft and asking a spirit to kill the younger brother. Now he has to withstand the divine power to stay alive.
