William Ralston Shedden-Ralston was an English writer and linguist, mostly known as an expert on Russian life and popularizer of Russian folklore and literature.
“The Three Copecks” is a legend, entered in “Russian Fairy Tales, A Choice Collection of Muscovite Folk-lore”. The story tells about a poor little orphan-lad, who has nothing at all to live on. So he goes to a rich man and hires himself out to him, agreeing to work for one copeck a year. In such a manner a poor, but kind and honest little orphan starts his way from poverty to happiness and riches.
We present you the literature works of the author, whose creature had made Russian folk narratives becoming an integral part of European children’s literature and culture.
