Three Tyrannies

In the spring of 1854, Anton Narvik was burdened with a family secret.  Fugitives were hiding in a coulee valley on their Grant County, Wisconsin farm, only five miles from the Mississippi River. Who those people were, and what they represented would change the course of the fourteen-year-old's life.  It would change the way he saw the world and its hypocrisies.  He would learn the differences between justice stated and justice rendered. He would learn steadfastness and kindness... and rage - primal rage, which he would unleash first in those valley confines and then in a great nation-defining civil war.  But before all that, on that first warm spring morning, he would meet a girl unlike any other.
