Hans Christian Andersen was one of the most famous Danish authors of XIX century. He wrote plays, novels and poems but most people know him as the outstanding author of the fairy tales. His stories are very popular among people of any age and nationality. His most famous fairy tales - “The Little Mermaid”, “The Snow Queen”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Emperor's New Clothes” - teach us a lesson of virtue, kindness and wisdom. “Thumbelina” was first published in 1835. This story is about a tiny girl and her wonderful adventures. Thumbelina emerges from the flower and one night a toad carries her off. A toad wants this tiny girl as a bride for her son. But with the help of fish and a butterfly Thumbelina escapes and captures by a stag beetle, but other beetles dislike the little girl. An old filed mouse shelters Thumbelina and suggests her to marry a mole, but Thumbelina doesn't want to marry him because he live underground and never sees the sun and the sky. Thumbelina escapes again with the help of a swallow. In a far land she meets a tiny flower-fairy prince, falls in love with him and they live together happily.
