After the untimely death of her parents, Eve Washington is forced to raise her two siblings, Linda and William, while putting herself through law school. Inspired and given moral support by Edwin, a young basketball player who makes his way to the NBA, Eve falls madly in love with him. But, he's married.
With Edwin's connections, Eve becomes a prominent attorney, and lies abound as Edwin struggles to make room for Eve in his life. Eve hangs on until she becomes pregnant and Edwin leaves her for good. Love turns into hate when Eve has to let go of her unborn child, and she shifts gears and begins specializing in divorce law, garnering many wealthy female clients who praise her, while their now penniless ex-husbands curse the day Eve was born.
Eve's brother, William, follows in Eve's footsteps and becomes a successful attorney himself, and though he idolizes Eve, is forced to turn his back on her when she becomes addicted to drugs and is unreachable by reason or his pleas. Linda, Eve's sister, now married with children, also pleads with Eve to get help, but Linda's heartfelt pleas fall on deaf ears.
Starved for love, Eve finds it with Jonah, one of her bodyguards, a gorgeous and aspiring actor 15 years her junior. Jonah becomes collateral damage as Eve drags him into her miserable world of addiction. Their marriage signals the beginning of the end for them when they both become involved in the brutal murder of two innocent young men.
