Wave Watcher

Wave Watcher is a story about what it means to be an everyday hero, and what it means to be human. Twelve-year-old Ray can’t sleep. Everyone thinks it’s because of bad dreams, but it’s not. His thoughts keep him awake—especially tonight, exactly one year after the terrible devastating event that changed his life forever. The gifted young writer’s pen has been silent since then, stilled by the shock. Tonight Ray will break the silence. He will begin to write again. Looking back on his short life, he will tell the story of who he is and try to make sense of the patterns that once seemed so sure. In the process he will come to see how a broken-down house, a brother with only one lung, the Mozart his mother plays on the piano, his father’s novel, a whisper in a cave, a grandmother who prays at midnight, and a man-eating Chihuahua have helped him make sense of the patterns in his life. Author Craig Johnson’s novel, written for a young adult audience, will make us laugh, cry, hope, and strive to live as fully as possible.
