Horatio Alger, Jr. (1832 – 1899) was a prolific American author of the 19-th century. His writings were characterized by the "rags-to-riches" narrative, which had a formative effect on America during the Gilded Age. Alger best known for his many juvenile novels about impoverished boys and their rise from humble backgrounds to lives of middle-class security and comfort through hard work, determination, courage, and honesty.

'Cast Upon The Breakers' is a book by Horatio Alger which was initaially published as a series in 1893. Like in many other Alger's books the central figure of this story is a poor boy. Rodney Ropes is an honest and hard-working boy who believes that one day he will be rich. Will he manage to do this? Read the book until the end and you will know!

This brilliant novel appeared as a breath of fresh air for American society of those times, bringing back the optimism and the ideals of possibilities that are brought by democracy.
